Sex, Lies,and Photoshop

I just saw this really cool video article in the opinion section of the New York Times. Once again if you are squeamish of women (and this time men too) clad in bikini's then beware, you have been warned, although, it is kind of the whole point....

I entirely agree that the false images portrayed by the media give false notions of beauty to those who look at them, whether it be men, women, young girls, whoever. People should know that the images they see in movies and magazines are not real. They are in fact, impossible to achieve using mortal means. So next time you see a skin care add with skin that appears to glow from within, or a man who muscles seem to too proportional to be true, it probably is. Too perfect to be true I mean. And admit it, you really wanted to know what I wrote when you saw "Sex" in the title....

I would love to see a magazine where the whole body truth is known. Ever since Jamie Lee Curtis came out and told the truth about the falsehood of the Hollywood body image Iv'e not believed a single photograph that I have seen in magazines or movies. However, that being spoken where can I get a person to touch up my photo's and make me look perfect?

So true. In fact, I was listening to NPR the other day to a program about HD TV. They actually pay people to blur out detail of the shots from these $400,000 cameras so that imperfections aren't as noticeable on HD.

Thanks for posting this Megz. Very informative. I had no idea how far they took the re-touching. I guess I always thought they were just taking off blemishes or scars or freckles. It makes me feel better to know that they are all completely fake!

Sometimes models legs are so long, they almost look like aliens.

I agree with the video narrator: either reveal all or give the credit where it's due.

The video was fascinating. Look up a painting by Magritte called "The human condition". It says a lot about images themselves. I think it was Aristotle that referred to the images as phantasma, which is akin to ghostly. Our problem is that we've come to worship something that doesn't exist.

Sylvia, Chris can make you perfect at least photo perfect.

I don't believe much of what I read or see, it's all an illusion. The truth is out there but you really have to be discerning and diligent to find it.

Media perfection in magazines, TV and movies has contributed to the low self esteem that many women in the world have as they can never reach the perfection of these images.
